Chiefs:
The Chiefs lost a crucial derby away to the Blues last week, a 23-8 defeat which saw the 2 sides swap places in the New Zealand Conference with the Chiefs now bottom of that division. With this being the first of 3 remaining matches which also include a clash with the Crusaders in Fiji and a visit to the Rebels, a play off spot would now appear highly unlikely.The Chiefs did win their most recent home fixture, 29-23 against the Sharks in Round 13. Their other home win came against the Blues in Round 9 and in Round 5 they drew 23-23 with the Canes at this stadium. Other home games saw the Highlanders and Sunwolves win in Hamilton in a disastrous start to the Chiefs season and more recently the Lions held on for victory on their tour.
Reds:
The Reds were also on the wrong end of a derby result last week when they went down 40-32 to the Waratahs in a surprisingly high scoring home game in Brisbane. The Queenslanders slipped to fourth in the Australian Conference although the gap to the Brumbies who lead the way is just 6 points. After this the Reds have home games against Jaguares and the Blues to come before they finish the regular season in Canberra so they could still make the play offs although there is now little margin for error.
